What do you believe?
“Take a good look at God’s wonders - they’ll take your breath away.”
Psalm 66:5 (The Message)
Let me start out by saying "Wow, we live in an amazing universe!" When you consider the Earth and all it's amazing life forms, and your own conscious awareness with the ability to understand the difference between good and evil, I don't know how anyone can say "There is no God".
Well, if you agree that there must be a God, then the next question is "Who is this God?" This is the big question. Of course, there are many people who disagree about the answer to this question. And if you are already convinced you know the answer, then I respect that. But if you are interested to hear it, then I would be happy to take a moment to share with you what I believe is the answer to this most important question.
I believe the Bible was inspired by God. The Bible says God created us all with a free choice to do good or to do evil in our lives. But the sad truth is that we all choose to do evil more often than we like to admit. It doesn’t matter whether you are better or worse compared to other people, we have all sinned against God. “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). The Bible says our sins separate us from God. Although God is loving, He is also just and He cannot simply tolerate evil and overlook the fact that we have sinned. “For the wages of sin is death (Romans 6:23a). This means that the fair payment for our sin is death. It is the punishment that we deserve. But that is why God sent His only Son, Jesus. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16). Jesus took the punishment that we deserved. He lived a perfect sinless life, but He died in our place so we would not have to take that punishment, and then He rose from the dead (Mark 8:31). Jesus died for you. You can be saved by receiving Him into your heart. “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name” (John 1:12). It doesn’t matter what you have done in the past, if you repent from your sins and cry out to Him for forgiveness, He will not reject you. “That if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved. (Romans 10:9).
